Answer first
Native Instagram captions are not required for a speech transcript. If you have the video file, Instagram Transcript can decode its audio and turn spoken words into timestamped text in your browser. If the video contains only text stickers or slides and no spoken audio, speech recognition cannot recover those words; that is an OCR problem.
What “no captions” can mean
There are three different cases: the creator did not add captions but people are speaking; the video has music and very little speech; or the important information is printed on screen. The first case is a normal audio-transcription job. The second may produce fragments. The third needs a visual text-reading step after transcription.
Use the right input
For a browser-only workflow, choose the clearest MP4, MOV, WebM, M4A, MP3, or WAV file available. A public post URL is a different workflow because it requires fetching media from Instagram. This tool intentionally works from a file you select and does not fetch posts or private accounts.
Improve speech recognition
- Select the spoken language instead of auto-detect when the clip mixes languages.
- Use the original export when possible; screen recordings often add noise.
- Keep timestamps on so you can replay uncertain words against the source.
- Export SRT or VTT when the result is going into a subtitle editor.
- Review names, numbers, and technical terms manually; they are common error points.
Speech transcript vs. on-screen text
A transcript represents what is said. It does not automatically include a product name shown in a corner, a recipe card, or a text-only carousel frame. For those elements, take frames and run OCR separately, then combine the visual notes with the timestamped speech.
Privacy and practical limits
Local processing keeps the selected file in the browser tab, but it still uses your device’s memory and processor. Long or high-resolution videos may take longer, and closing the tab removes the working result. That trade-off is useful when avoiding a server upload matters more than maximum speed.
